Killing Us (Not So) Softly
I have a feeling I’m not the first person to write about this. Nor will I be the last. Honestly, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed lately and haven’t had a chance to troll the blogs I enjoy or even major news sites, so this post may be overkill.
Sorry, that’s a poor choice of words.
You see, O.J. Simpson has written a book with the working title O.J. Simpson: If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened, referring to the “unsolved” murders of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. O.J. is also scheduled to appear on Fox in an interview special airing in two parts on November 27 and November 29.
Many words come to mind—like “classy” and “tasteful,” albeit with the word “NOT” firmly before them. Simpson is making a mockery of the families’ suffering; he hasn’t said if any royalties will go toward the unpaid bulk of the $33.5 million wrongful death civil judgment he still has looming over him.
Don’t get me wrong. I support the U.S. justice system despite its flaws. I’d rather see someone who is probably guilty go free than see someone who is probably innocent be falsely imprisoned for life or murdered by the state.
But describing how you would have committed murders that most people think you got away with anyway is probably the most despicable thing he could do right now.
I shouldn’t say that—next thing you know, he’ll announce he’s recreating the crime with Nicole and Ron look-alikes.
At least NBC passed on the interview special opportunity, citing questionable taste. But not all publishers and networks see it that way, so I fear the precedent this will set—and the prospect of seeing these titles on the bookshelf:
Mark Foley, I Did Not Send Inappropriate Sexual E-Mails to Underage Congressional Pages … But If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened.
Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, We Did Not Mean To Expose Janet’s Breast at the Super Bowl To Boost Our Careers … But If We Did It, Here’s How It Happened.
Bill Clinton, I Did Not Have Sexual Relations with That Woman, Miss Lewinsky … But If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened.
Lee Harvey Oswald, I Did Not Take the Fall for a Vast Conspiracy To Kill President Kennedy … But If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened.
Adolf Hitler, I Didn’t Kill Millions of Jews, Gypsies, and Others I Deemed ‘Undesirable’ … But If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened.
Shame on you, O.J. You make me sick.

Exactly. How on earth did he think that we wouldn't see through it? I'm glad rules against double jeopardy exist, but sometimes...
OJ is a narcissist. He misses the attention he used to have before the murders & now craves any attention, even if it's negative.
He is despicable, but so is the jury that allowed him to walk free.
OJ- Be scared; be very scared. Fred Goldman will make you pay; I guarantee it...
OJ is a friggin murderous sociopath and the woman who agreed to publish this crap should be ashamed of herself. I hate OJ. I have to see Nicole's grave often, she's buried next to my father. I used to find comfort in visiting his grave site...but now when I sit there all I can think of is that bastard OJ murdering her.
I particularly enjoyed the Lee Oswald reference. Appropriate for this time of year, don't you think? Especially in the D.C. area.
He just disgusts the shit out of me.
Good way to thread your way to Hitler! This whole debacle is just unreal. I don't know what to say. Maybe OJ got a fan letter from one of those killer fans and took it to heart...
We seem to have consensus here--O.J. will NOT win the Nobel Peace Prize. Can anyone out there defend this??

Fools! He's just trying to get into the real killer's head, so he can catch him!
Justin and Janet was the best halftime show ever! Certainly the most tivo'd. halftime has been an AARP salute ever since
I agree David, he's treating the whole affair with disgusting contempt.
He makes me sick too.
I am banking on karma handling this one...
Maybe Axl Rose will put out a book called "My career is still furishing, but if I wanted to really screw it up then here's how I would do it..."
DA you made me laugh about about a subject that's pretty much not funny. I can't defend him...because I think it's not only sick...but weird too.
He's an attention-whore and a disgusting man.
hey, I just read this in the news.
Good...They nixed it. Maybe there is sanity somewhere in the world.
Even the Fox people turned on this one, so it's dead. For now - they still have the tapes and (sad to say) I'm sure they'll appear sometimes.
Makes ya sick.
Yeah, I just saw that it's off for now too. He's a sick man.
I think they all decided to drop the idea because of your post, David. How does that make you feel? ;)
Fox finally came to their senses and dropped the book (after printing 400,000 copies) and whatever interviews were lined up. It's sad that they let it get that far.
Wow--I hadn't heard about the cancellation before seeing it here! I guess I should watch crappy entertainment news shows more often ... or perhaps this is a good thing.
OMW: I'd like to thank the Academy. And my parents, for teaching me the value of sticking to your guns. And all of my readers, for pretending that my posts matter ...

Bravo, David. Even those Fox has decided to cancel the airing of the interview and sheepishly walk away with their fat foot in their mouth, what in the hell were they thinking? I would have loved to have been listening in on that meeting.
David, lost to Dominic James(Richmond IN) led Marquette tonight, wtf happened?! It's really hard to root for Duke, but I am trying.
Have a nice thanksgiving!
Clever, clever.
I'm glad the interview isn't going to happen. If we ignore OJ's stunts, maybe he'll hang himself.
I am in total agreement!
Happy Thanksgiving sweetie!
Have fun and be safe!

Can you imagine having him for a father?
Happy Thanksgiving.
hahahahaaa, I soooo luv your list! Brilliant!!!

So glad most of America were equally nauseated and both the movie and book have been pulled.
He deserves to rot in obscurity.
